On Sunday, Bruno Mars and his band gave tribute to the late Amy Winehouse with their rendition of "Valerie". It was lovely, as is Amy's version but let's not forget that it was written by The Zutons. I still dig the original. Had never seen the video until a few days ago. Enjoy your holiday weekend.
I wanted to play this track last night but couldn't find it. Had to play Crossroads instead. Anyway, WAKE UP....it's the first of the month!
Tom Waits is an original. A gravel-throated, foot stompin' Coney Island carnival barker who has kept us entertained for four decades now. I remember seeing him in films such as The Outsiders, The Fisher King and Dracula before I was ever really familiar with his records. His new album, Bad As Me, drops October 25th. Here's the single followed by the video for "I Don't Wanna Grow Up" (1992) directed by none other than Jim Jarmush. Way gone.
It's part of the game.
Soul Coughing never put out a bad record. Unfortunately, tension between bandmates led to their demise in 2000. I've never really been able to sink my teeth into Mike Doughty's solo work. This is why when the stars align and you find yourself inside of the magic - you hold on and ride it for as long as you can. It won't be there forever.
