Real Talk Tuesdays: Danstock

I first met Dan Stock when we played together at the Hard Rock Cafe in 2001. Since then our bands have shared stages and we even interviewed each other over the phone for the now defunct iChannel radio (St. Louis). The past few years Dan has been battling cancer and is unfortunately now left without further treatment options. Rather than roll over and give up - Dan is throwing a kick ass rock show to help raise money for cancer research. Chicago people - make every effort to stop by and show some love. He's one of the good guys. Click here for tickets.

Feel Good Fridays: Jenny Owen Youngs

Tonight our buddy Jenny Owen Youngs comes to C-U for the first time. She's been out there grinding for most of the last decade. Sharing stages with Aimee Mann and Regina Spektor as well as having her tunes featured on Weeds, Nurse Jackie, Catfish and others. She's a true badass so expect your mind to be blown tonight at The Highdive. Dig.

Real Talk Tuesdays: Christmas in Hollis

One of my favorite holiday jams, "Christmas in Hollis" was recorded for the Very Special Christmas compilation in 1987 (which went to benefit the Special Olympics). In the video however, we see Santa (who is already behind schedule) give up his "judging seat" to a punk-ass little elf who proceeds to mark everyone as "NAUGHTY". Exlains a lot.

Coincidentally, I received my favorite gift from my parents in 1987.....tickets to see the Bulls and Pacers play. Michael Jordan - in the flesh. He averaged 35 points a game that year - the highest of his career - but that night he was off, dumping in just 14 points and missing two dunks. Didn't matter - still my favorite gift.

*this is the poster that I had on my wall in '87.

Feel Good Fridays: Family

Honestly had one of the best Thanksgivings in recent memory yesterday. Hope you did as well.

Real Talk Tuesdays: Hamlet

This Thursday, The Celebration Company at the Station Theatre in Urbana will open its production of Hamlet by William Shakespeare (arguably the most popular play ever written). The chance to see it in such an intimate setting coupled by the fact that director Mathew Green has paired down the length to a managable 2 hour show is reason enough to go see it. Add the bonus of a modernized setting and casting my bad-ass wife as Hamlet and we've got ourselves a show. Oh yeah - I wrote some music for it. I'm guessing it's gonna be some top shelf entertainment. Make your reservations here.
