Way Gone Wednesdays: Action Bronson

I give very little love to the new school. Can't stand most of these kids - mostly because they don't meet my three-tier requirements to be considered quality goods. A) have a nice voice  (Nas, Jay, Doom, Redman) B) have a nice flow (Rugged Man, Pharaohe Monch, Aesop Rock) and C) have something to say (Brother Ali, Mos Def) or at least be so cool that I don't care (Missy).

Although his flow is all Ghostface, Action Bronson is one of the only new schoolers to get a pass from me. He not only meets all three aforementioned requirements but also tends to ride over the dopest sample-heavy beats. Dig this video for "Steve Wynn". Way gone.

Throwback Thursdays: MC Serch

I didn't get to play this cut last night, although I had planned to.  Most folks remember 3rd Bass but forgot that both MC Serch and Prime Minister Pete Nice released solo efforts post break-up.  This is such a great posse cut featuring verses from Red Hot Lover Tone, Chubb Rock and some kid who called himself Nasty Nas.  This was 1992.

Way Gone Wednesdays:  Nas

Way Gone Wednesdays usually focuses on artists that travel out of bounds.  Those left-leaning weirdos that I admire so much.  But it's also a place for those who flex incredible skill.  Nas just dropped the hottest mainstream single I've heard in years (from his new album, Life is Good).  I say mainstream because I consider him to be a well-lit artist, but this is real hip-hop.  Something I haven't heard from the chart toppers in a long time.  No synth tracks, no auto-tune, no Rhianna hook.  Just burnin' it down.  This track is way gone.

(NOTE:  Apparently just a teaser as the track has been removed from Soundcloud.  Boo!  So...here's the Youtube rip.  We win!)
