Throwback Thursdays: John Holt

John Holt is a legend in reggae music. Particularly his work in the early days of ska. The name might not sound familiar but I'm sure you've heard his work. He wrote this little ditty, for instance. About 3 times a month I wake up with his song, "Ali Baba" in my head. And I'm okay with that.

Throwback Thursdays: Grandmaster Flash

In 1984 I bought a K-tel record called Breakdance.  I played the mess out of it.  It kicked off with this incredible Grandmaster Flash mashup which features breaks from Incredible Bongo Band (Apache) , Chic (Good Times), Blondie (Rapture), Queen (Another One Bites The Dust), Sugarhill Gang (8th Wonder), Furious Five (Birthday Party) and Spoonie Gee (Monster Jam).  Epic.  While in Boston last summer, I found this on vinyl and scooped it up right away.  Dig.
