Way Gone Wednesdays: Polka Raps

I hate me some Chris Brown.  Big ups to Andy Rehfeldt for this remix.  Watch when Busta comes in (@ :57).  Hilarious (and by hilarious I mean, Way Gone).

Real Talk Tuesdays: Sage Francis

Sage Francis is an artist, a poet and an emcee.  Here he is on some local Rhode Island news show giving the squares some Real Talk.

Before I knew it
I saw the students of poor

Throwback Thursdays: In the Cooker

I played my monthly residency at Red Star last night.  Old School.  One of my favorite things to do is to throw on an original tune and then drop the corresponding hip-hop track that sampled it.  I wanted to play Biggie's "Going Back to Cali", which uses the same beat as EPMD's "You Gots to Chill" but in order to play that you have to go back to Zapp & Roger's "More Bounce to the Ounce".  So I threw all three in the cooker.  Dig.

The original groove....

Then, Erick and Parrish.....

Finally, Biggie (the beat drops @ 1:15)....

Way Gone Wednesdays:  Fishbone

Fishbone was one of those bands that fell between the second (Madness, The Specials) and third (Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake) waves of ska.  They toured for years, put on a helluva live show but never really got their due (in my opinon).  I heard this cut again yesterday and it brought an enormous grin to my grill.  Love it - a blitzkrieg ska tune about the Russian and Cuban nuclear threats in the 80's.  One things for sure - these cats were Way Gone.

And watch them kill it live in Tokyo.....

Real Talk Tuesdays:  Marwencol

We watched Marwencol last night.  Real Talk?  Life is sometimes strange and beautiful.
