Entries in The D.O.C. (3)

Way Gone Wednesdays: Motley Crue

I guess Motley Crue is calling it quits. Gotta be honest - I didn't even realize that they were still a thing. During road trips for my high school basketball team I usually heard one of three albums; "Appetite for Destruction" by Guns N' Roses, "Back in Black" by AC/DC or "Dr. Feelgood" by Motley Crue. I recognize these as classics but it usually prompted me to bring my headphones and study Public Enemy and The D.O.C. But fuck it, let's send these leather clad, mall haired old bitties off in style. Boom.

Throwback Thursdays: The D.O.C.

One of the creative minds behind N.W.A., The D.O.C. made a name for himself in the 80's gangsta rap stage. But in 1989 a car accident left The D.O.C. with damaged vocal cords. He would never fully recover and instead continued to ghostwrite for the likes of Dr. Dre and Snoop. Rumor has it though that he will be releasing his fourth studio album (which has already been 7 years in the making).

Throwback Thursdays: Eazy-E

So much to say about this track. Eazy's solo debut, Eazy Duz It, was realeased in the fall of 1988 - but I don't think I got my hands on it until the following summer. We were all attracted to his voice and general gangsta-ness but it wasn't until later that we realized he couldn't rap (or write...most of his verses were ghostwritten by Ice Cube, MC Ren and The D.O.C.). The fake interview bits are terrible but this is as good as it gets for an Eazy track. I think the thing I love most about it these days are the number of lists in the song. Check it....

"I specalize in gankin' whites, mexicans, brothers and others"

"Brother don't you know that you can't trust a theif or thug, convict, hoodlum or criminal"

"Anybody gettin' on my nerves will get beat, ganked, broke and served"

"Fill the boy, homeboy, don't lag - I want money, beer and a pack of zig-zags"
