Real Talk Tuesdays: Aesop Rock
Aesop Rock will drop his first solo record in 5 years on July 10th (Rhymesayers). I'm stoked. He's been busy lately with projects like Hail Mary Mallon (with Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz) and The Uncluded (with Kimya Dawson) but I'm excited to see him occupying his own territory again. Listen to the leaked cut, "Zero Dark Thirty" over on Soundcloud and then dig the super creepy teaser for the album. Real talk? It's super creepy.
Way Gone Wednesday: TBD
Kimya Dawson spent a good chunk of this year touring with hip-hoppers Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz. In the process, Aesop and Kimya decided to make an album together. The two took to twitter in an effort to name their new project (no name has been announced as of this morning). Below is a video of them rehearsing. I've been in rehearsals like this - ones where it's not about mic levels and perfection, but rather making sure everyone knows the words and cues. This looks like a shit ton of fun.
Kimya's new album, Thunder Thighs, dropped last week. Go cop that shit.
Way Gone Wednesday: Hail Mary Mallon
Mary Mallon (also known as Typhoid Mary) was identifited as the first healthy carrier of typhoid fever in the U.S. She spread the disease to dozens of people via her cooking. Fast foward to the present and we find Hail Mary Mallon, a hip-hop trio consisting of Aesop Rock, DJ Big Wiz and Rob Sonic. Their new album, Are You Gonna Eat That?, is available on Rhymesayers. Interesting since Aesop has been a long-time Def Jux staple - but considering that labels recent instablitiy, can't say I blame him for jumping on the hottest camp in hip-hop.
Watch these weirdos just flexin' round the camp fire. Way gone.
