Entries in Exile on Main Street (6)

Throwback Thursdays: Violent Femmes

This past weekend my son and I played at the Grand Re-Opening of Exile on Main Street records and Dandelion vintage clothing shop. I asked him to pick a cover for us to play and he chose this one. Here are the Femmes live (from the early 90's). Enjoy.

Madhouse Mondays: Chris Macro

I walked into my local record store on Friday (shouts out to Exile on Main Street) and the first thing I saw was a bootleg dubplate from Chris Macro - King Tubby vs. Wu Tang. Sold. The New Zealand selector has a string of uber-cool mash ups on his site and this one is a no brainer. Dig the video for Brooklyn Battleaxe and go cop that shit.

Throwback Thursdays: Beastie Boys Day

I didn't pick up a basketball until 8th grade. I was terrible. No fundamentals. No common sense. After the season my folks thought I was through - considering that I spent most of my time on the bench - even during B Team games. That summer I sought out my future Freshman coach and asked him what I should work on. He said, "Free throws and layups". So everyday that summer (and I do mean every day) I would hit the courts armed with my boombox and License to Ill. I put together a shooting routine that would span the length of the album. So, during the summer of 1987, every workout started with "Rhymin and Stealin". I started that year as a Freshman.

This Saturday at our local independent record store, Exile on Main Street, myself and DJ Belly will be spinning all Beasties all day. Starting at the top.

Feel Good Fridays: Zara McFarlane

Tomorrow is Record Store Day - a celebration of independent record stores around the world. Hip labels will be offering up exclusive releases just for the day. Most locations will feature in-store performances (including our own Exile on Main Street). I'll be playing and so will many of my talented pals. Here's a peek at an RSD exclusive by Zara McFarlane. Dig.

Feel Good Fridays: Talib Kweli

I'm back!  Surgery was successful - I'm recovering nicely.  It's Friday!  I'm taking my son to meet Talib Kweli tonight.  He'll being doing a meet-and-greet at Exile On Main Street at 6pm.  Don't sleep.
