Way Gone Wednesdays: Turntable Foolishness
Dig these fools (DJ Cash Money, DJ Scratch and Biz Markie) clownin'. This is how you turn a mistake into a performance.
Throwback Thursdays: DJ Kool
This is THE party starter, people. Make no mistake. DJ Kool (with Doug E. Fresh and Biz Markie) circa 1996. Dig.
Feel Good Fridays: Paul Simon
I didn't have cable growing up so I guess I missed this video from 1988. As if I needed another reason to love this song (or Paul Simon) the video includes appearances by Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane, Spud Webb, Mickey Mantle and John Madden. Surreal.
Throwback Thursdays: Biz Markie
I don't care what year it is, this jam has never gone out of style. The Biz is still out there workin it. One of my favorite stories about my mother (who drove a schoolbus for 30 years) takes place in 1989. I would ride my mothers bus (before I had my license) and would bring my enormous boombox along to provide tunes for my peers (otherwise Ma would play the Christian radio station). I must have played "Just A Friend" often enough that ol' Judy got to know it pretty well. One day on the way home from school she lead the entire bus in the chorus "OH BABY YOUUUUUU.....YOU GOT WHAT I NEEEEEED". Never been more proud.
Real Talk Tuesdays: J-Live
In 2007 DJ Jazzy Jeff ('member him?) dropped an incredible collection called The Return of the Magnificent, which featured collabs with Posdnous (De La Soul), Method Man, Biz Markie and J-Live. On the J-Live tune, Jeff took the infamous Allen Iverson rant about "practice" and made it a hot track. J-Live rips the absolute TRUTH - including some close-to-home lyrics about what it's like to be a successful independent artists these days. Dig.
