Way Gone Wednesdays: Tom Waits

Tom Waits is an original.  A gravel-throated, foot stompin' Coney Island carnival barker who has kept us entertained for four decades now.  I remember seeing him in films such as The Outsiders, The Fisher King and Dracula before I was ever really familiar with his records.  His new album, Bad As Me, drops October 25th.  Here's the single followed by the video for "I Don't Wanna Grow Up" (1992) directed by none other than Jim Jarmush.  Way gone.

Feel Good Fridays: BK One

For 10 years BK One travelled with Brother Ali as his DJ.  I saw them together many times in Champaign-Urbana and up in Minnesota.  In 2007 when the I-35W bridge collapsed in Minneapolis, BK's wife was on it.  She suffered some major injuries but bounced right back.  Since then, BK has chosen to spend his time at home with the family rather than out on the road.  He continues to be in incredible DJ and producer.  In 2009 he released the Brazillian flavored Radio Do Canibal (featuring heavy hitters like Raekwon and Black Thought as well as Rhymesayers staples Slug, P.O.S. and Brother Ali).  Here's the Radio Do Canibal Megamix to get your weekend started.

Feel Good Fridays: DJ Basura

Oh the dichotomy!  Bay area selector DJ Basura mashed up Icelandic pixie Bjork with foul-mouth bad boy Spank Rock.  The result?  A feel good banger.  Dig.
