Real Talk Tuesdays: Party Down
A few years back, Starz decided to get into the race with some original programming. One of the first series they launced was Party Down. A short lived (2 seasons) romp about a group of Hollywood misfits (out of work actors, writers & comics) who do catering work to pay the bills. The series starred Ken Marino (The State), Adam Scott (Parks & Rec), Lizzy Caplan (True Blood), Martin Starr (Freaks & Geeks), Jane Lynch (Glee) and Megan Mullaly (Will & Grace). Oh yeah, it was also co-created and produced by Paul Rudd. I'm not sure why Starz pulled the plug on this gem but now they're in talks to shoot a feature film. Apparently funding has been secured and the cast is on board, they just need script approval. Real talk? I'm with it.
Madhouse Mondays: Porcupine Racetrack
Before Reno 911!, before Viva Variety, before cult comedies like Wet Hot American Summer there was a sketch comedy troupe called The State. Airing on MTV from 1993-95, The State launched the careers of several funny men and women (Michael Ian Black, Thomas Lennon, Ken Marino, Michael Showalter and Kerri Kenney among others). Their crowning acheivement, in my opinion, has always been the Oklahoma-esque, "Porucpine Racetrack". Enjoy.
