Throwback Thursdays: Sylvia Robinson

One week ago we lost Sylvia Robinson, a hip-hop pioneer.  Sylvia was the founder and CEO of Sugar Hill Records which brought us, of course, The Sugar Hill Gang and raps first single, "Rapper's Delight".  Here she is in 1974 performing "Sweet Stuff" on Soul Train.  If the groove sounds familiar, it's because J Dilla sampled the mess out of it for his cut, "Crushin' (Yeeeaaah)".  Dig.

Way Gone Wednesdays: J Dilla

J Dilla has been gone for a little while now, but I'll be damned if he's STILL not one of the best producers in hip-hop.  This song ("Nothing Like This") is all vibe.  The video is Way Gone.  The making of the video is even better.  Enjoy.
