Throwback Thursdays: Sonic Youth & Cypress Hill
In 1993, director Stephen Hopkins dropped a mediocre movie (Judgement Night) with a stellar soundtrack. The tunes paired alternative rock bands of the day with gritty hip-hop. The results were fantastic - here's the Sonic Youth/Cypress Hill hybrid, "I Love You Mary Jane". We opened with this at the Great Cover Up in 2005.
Madhouse Mondays: Longfin Inshore Squid
Scientists at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts ran an interesting experiment recently on the Longfin Inshore Squid. Basically, they attached an iPod to the squid's fin nerve and pumped in some Cypress Hill. The squid reacted to the song in a strange and beautiful way. Go here for more info and peep the video below. Insane.
Throwback Thursdays: Delinquent Habits
With the rise of 90's hip-hop groups like House of Pain and Cypress Hill came Delinquent Habits. The first single hit pretty hard then they, of course, slid into obscurity. Take a peek at the lead-off track complete with a PSA from the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project. It was 1996.
Feel Good Fridays: Prince Fatty
Had a rather uneventful evening at the Monkey last night. I managed to work this track in towards the end of my set. It's delightful to see people recognize (yet not recognize) a cut. You can see them sort it out. This is Prince Fatty taking on Cypress Hill.
