Throwback Thursdays: Ms. Melodie
Ms. Melodie was the female emcee reppin' the Boogie Down Productions crew and was once married to KRS-One. I lost track of her after their fallout but she went hard back in the day. R.I.P. Queen.
Throwback Thursdays: Boogie Down Productions
By the late 80's Def Jam had become the go-to label for all my hip-hop needs. Run DMC, The Beastie Boys, L.L. Cool J were all well established. Then came the political movement with acts like Public Enemy and Boogie Down Productions. In 1989 BDP dropped Ghetto Music - fusing boom-bap and reggae with overtly political rhymes. This was my favorite cut on that album.
Throwback Thursdays: D Nice
D Nice was a founding member of Boogie Down Productions (along with KRS One and DJ Scott La Rock). In 1990 he dropped a classic, "Call Me D Nice". I've always loved this track. Dig.
