Entries in A Tribe Called Quest (9)

Throwback Thursdays: The Meters

The Meters' classic "Cissy Strut" was sampled by everyone from N.W.A., A Tribe Called Quest and even Master P. Dig this cut and don't forget to wiggle.

Real Talk Tuesdays: Dem Atlas

Last week, Rhymesayers announced a new addition to their roster - Minnesota native Dem Atlas. To me, this is a move that the label had to make. Dem is a throwback to the days of Digable Planets, Black Sheep and Tribe. His debut EP, Charlie Brwn, is available here for download. Peep the video for the title track below.

Feel Good Fridays: Vibes and Stuff

The Low End Theory is easily my favorite Tribe record. I've had it bumpin' in the car the past few weeks - but what I discovered is that "Vibes and Stuff" is now my favorite cut on that album. It also contains Phife's best verse on the record - I just love the way he comes in "I don't know what to say, but here I go freakin'". And of course what of my favorite lines of all time "Party animal I was, but now I chill at home/all I do is write rhymes, eat, drink, shit, bone". Righteous.

Madhouse Mondays: A Tribe Called Kast.

Yup. A Tribe Called Quest mashed up with Outkast. You're welcome. Big ups to Nappy DJ Needles.

Throwback Thursdays: Jungle Brothers

Jungle Brothers were on that alt-jazz tip and part of the Native Tongues collective but seem to be forgotten by most. Dig this cut from '88.
