Feel Good Friday: Biggie

I thought I'd have my fill of Biggie cuts after all the remincing and such last week. Alas, I can't get enough. Dig this remix by Alex Madsen. B.I.G. over Stevie Wonder?  Yes please.

Throwback Thursdays: Craig Mack

In the early days of Bad Boys Entertainment, Sean Combs pushed two artists to the forefront of his roster. One was Notorious B.I.G. who would go on to be one of the most celebrated names (and voices) in hip-hop. The other was Craig Mack. I've always felt that Craig never got his due. His flow is insanely good but he slipped quietly into the background while others gravitated towards the spotlight. Peep this classic from 1994.

Throwback Thursdays: In the Cooker

I played my monthly residency at Red Star last night.  Old School.  One of my favorite things to do is to throw on an original tune and then drop the corresponding hip-hop track that sampled it.  I wanted to play Biggie's "Going Back to Cali", which uses the same beat as EPMD's "You Gots to Chill" but in order to play that you have to go back to Zapp & Roger's "More Bounce to the Ounce".  So I threw all three in the cooker.  Dig.

The original groove....

Then, Erick and Parrish.....

Finally, Biggie (the beat drops @ 1:15)....
