Real Talk Tuesdays: Mystikal
Mystikal made his way in the 90's through the dirty south movement of hip-hop. He flexed on the Cash Money crew, signed with the No Limit crew and eventually released some bonifide hits including "Danger (Been So Long)", "Shake Ya Ass" and the James Brown inspired "Bouncin' Back (Bumpin' Me Against the Wall)". In the last verse of "Bouncin' Back", he says "Tell my friends to call I ain't accepting no letters". Even though the track is 10 years old - I think letter-writing, as a primary form of communication, had already died. Still - I always thought that line was coming from him - in isolation (as in the video) but if you look further, he's referring to someone else who:
started some trouble and you ain't been out since
Cause you stuck inside scared watching CNN
But the real talk is this, Mystikal was released last January after serving time for sexual battery, extortion and tax evasion. When life imitates art, imitating life - you can get caught up. Stick with your gift, kids. Fuck the bullshit.
