Real Talk Tuesdays: Kara's Flowers

In the mid to late 90's I subscribed to CMJ Magazine which, at the time, had it's finger on the pulse of what was cool in 'college and alternative' markets.  Each issue came with a mix disc that featured anywhere from 17-21 songs.  I discovered a lot of new music this way and in October of 1997 I heard a song called "Soap Disco" by Kara's Flowers.  It had such good pop sensability and immediately brought to mind That Thing You Do (which was a hit the year before and featured music from Fountain's of Wayne singer, Adam Schlesinger).  I wanted to hear more from Kara's Flowers but they seemed to fade quickly.  What I didn't know is that they had signed a major deal and had been "re-worked" by the label.  When they surfaced again it would be as Maroon 5 with the single "Harder to Breathe".  Strange.
