Real Talk Tuesdays: Mayer Hawthorne
With Timberlake's album breaking all sorts of sales records and the new Robin Thicke single making everyone giddy - I just want to point out that the most important white boy soul artist is Mayer Hawthorne. He brings much more Motown than ringtone and he's better for it. Dig.
Real Talk Tuesdays: Justin Timberlake
When JT's sophomore effort came out (Future Sex/Love Sounds) I knew there was a problem. See, JT wants to make a timeless record like Thriller - but instead he paired himself with buzz-worthy producers and flavor-of-the-week rappers to make a medicore (and dated) dance record.
Now that the teasers for his new album (The 20/20 Expericence) start to creep out, I can see that he's attempting a "throwback" vibe which will come close to representing a timeless sound. Let's hope it's not too contrived. On that note, I liked his new single "Suit & Tie" better when it was called "Do Something Special" by Five Special. Dig.
