Madhouse Mondays: Eminem/Spike Lee
When Eminem dropped the Marshall Mathers 2 lp late last year, I gave it an honest listen. Only two tracks really caught my ear and one straight up broke my heart. "Headlights" is the song about closure with his estranged mother that we've all been waiting for. Spike Lee directed this tear-jerker of a video and they released it on Mothers Day.
Madhouse Mondays: Bizarre
I never really had much love for D12 - the rag tag Detroit posse that Eminem felt obligated to put on after he achieved stardom. But out of left-field, D12 vet Bizarre has dropped the funniest tune since Afroman. My moms doesn't smoke weed but it would be a lot cooler if she did.
Throwback Thursdays: Eminem
Eminem had the best selling album of 2010 with Recovery, a record that tried (and succeeded) to emulate the ring-tone anthems that crowd the upper half of the charts. I've been severely disappointed in his art for a number of years now. I consider the first two releases (Slim Shady LP from 1999 and the Marshall Mathers LP from 2000) to be were the real gems are. But the first time I heard Marshall was on the 1998 Cali Kings Mixtape Volume 1 where he freestyled over the KRS-One track, "Still #1". This verse is incredible.
I miss you, Marshall. If you ever escape the illuminati, write more raps like this one.
